Vector Postcards

The ideas for creating these postcards came from cities I have visited as well as cities I have been interested in visiting and have done research in the hopes of visiting one day. I started by sketching out rough ideas of what I would like to incorporate in the final versions of my postcards then getting feedback on what other people thought would turn out the best. After choosing my city landmarks, I used basic tools in illustrator (pen tool, rectangle tool and direct selection tool) to create a 2D world where these images are based off of. In my San Francisco postcard, I created the illusion of the Painted Ladies houses to appear more 3D than the background city by adding shades to the sides of the houses and giving the image a feeling of looking at it from an angle. I achieved this by using the rectangle tool and the direct selection tool to angle the sides of the houses and then darkening the colors. In my Chicago postcard I wanted to create that same 3D and 2D combination, only I created the buildings behind the main focal point to appear 3D by giving shadows to their sides. I achieved this in the same way as the San Francisco postcard, and then I used the pen tool to create the Bean in he foreground.

In my final Illustrations, I kept the same ideas I had for my drafted version. This time, to achieve my roofs and sides to the houses in my San Francisco image, I used the shear tool and rectangle tool. I created the cityscape with a pen tool. In my final Chicago postcard, I also used the shear tool to recreate my buildings. I used the rectangle and direct selection tool to create the windows that I added and I used the gradient tool to give depth to the Bean.
